I ordered the eSata SheevaPlug at New IT in the UK and received it 4 days later in the Netherlands.
Here are some photos of the SheevaPlug, the box with all contents.
And that, I was curious about the build quality of my SheevaPlug. Therefore I needed to break the warranty seal.
I was surprised about the mechanical quality, I read so many bad stories about nearly broken wires and broken power supplies. But it all looks pretty good. The wires are soldered well and the construction of the heat-sink is placed well. I want to lay the SheevaPlug on the table and not in a power plug. So the heat goes up and not to the power supply and heating up the capacitors.
What I opened the ventilation hole of the upper case part a little bit more with a scalpel knife. It is a known problem of the SheevaPlug.
I also measured 4.2 Watt power consumption when idle, network connected and SDHC card inserted. This is even better than the Linksys NSLU2. I think the power supply of the Linksys NSLU2 is less efficient than the power supply of the SheevaPlug.
